Will Present Research at Seismological Society Meeting

Three
scientists from the University of Memphis Center for Earthquake
Research and Information will present their research at the
annual meeting of the Seismological Society of America April
30-May 2 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The meeting, which is being
hosted by the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez,
commemorates the 100th anniversary of seismic instrumentation
in Puerto Rico.
Chris
Cramer, CERI adjunct professor and a geophysicist with the
U.S. Geological Survey, will discuss the new seismic hazard
maps for Shelby County which incorporate the effects of site
geology.
CERI director Dr. Arch Johnston will discuss "Revisiting
the New Madrid 1811-1812 Fault Rupture Scenario with the New
SCR Seismic Source Scaling."
Chuck
Langston, CERI professor, will discuss preliminary results
from an embayment seismic excitation experiment.
The
SSA is a scientific society devoted to the advancement of
earthquake science. Founded in San Francisco in 1906 (the
year of the great San Francisco quake), the Society now has
members throughout the world representing a variety of technical
interests, including seismologists and other geophysicists,
geologists, engineers, insurers and policy-makers in preparedness
and safety.
