Hoxie:
The First Stand
Will Be Screened at U of M Feb. 12

The
CINE Award-winning film Hoxie: The First Stand, directed
by University of Memphis professor David Appleby, will be
shown Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 6 p.m. in the University Center
Faulkner Lounge. Admission is free, and the public is invited.
The
documentary follows events in a small Arkansas town after
the school board voluntarily desegregated its schools in 1955,
following the U.S. Supreme Court's Brown v. Board of Education
decision.
A
panel discussion of Hoxie residents who lived through the
controversy will follow the hour-long film.
The
film recently won a CINE Golden Eagle award.
Parking
is available in the garage off of Zach Curlin or in nearby
lots.
The
event is sponsored by the University Libraries and the Friends
of the University Libraries.
