More than 200 engineering students from across the southeastern United States are expected to attend the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Region II Student Conference on April 5 and 6 at the University of Memphis. Activities will be held at the FedEx Institute of Technology and the Holiday Inn at the U of M.

Jim Phillips, former executive director of the FedEx Institute, will be the speaker for Monday's luncheon. John Swihart, a retired vice president of the Boeing Co. and the man who is considered the father of the Boeing 767, will speak at the Tuesday evening awards banquet.

The students will present research on aeronautics and astronautics. Amanda Winter, a U of M graduate student in mechanical engineering, will present a paper entitled "Simulation of On-Orbit Magnetic Positive Positioning of Propellants."
Sponsors and participants include NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, FedEx, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Delta Airlines, the U.S. Air Force, and the United Space Alliance.

The conference is hosted by the U of M's AIAA student branch. The AIAA is the principal society for aerospace engineers and scientists.
