Transferring
to a new college can be confusing and stressful. Which credits
will transfer? What are the admissions requirements? How do
I apply?
Beginning
Oct. 2, the University of Memphis is making it easier to get
the answers through a new program held the first Thursday
of each month. "Transition Thursdays" is sponsored
by the offices of Academic Transfer and Articulation and Enrollment
Services.
Interested
students can begin with a tour of the campus at 1 p.m. A question-and-answer
session will be held at 2 p.m.
At
3 p.m., the staff in undergraduate academic services will
be available for a brief counseling session to help with academic
plans. They will not do a complete evaluation of transfer
credits, but will look over transcripts and recommend courses
to take before transferring.
Potential
transfer students also may sit in on selected classes that
are offered on Thursdays. Among the offerings are world art,
introduction to theater, computer network technology, general
biology, constitutional criminal procedure, and trends in
nursing and health care.
"One
of the highest priorities for colleges and universities in
the Tennessee Board of Regents system is to assure the seamless
transfer of courses among institutions," said Yolanda
Mathews, coordinator of Academic Transfer and Articulation.
"An effective transfer process is essential for TBR institutions,
especially to accommodate the movement of students from the
13 two-year institutions to the six universities. It is our
goal to achieve this mission through Transition Thursdays."
