Lee Will Put Race on the Table with "Equity in Education"

The
New Teacher Center at the University of Memphis will sponsor
a visit October 7 by a nationally and internationally known
authority on the subject of equity in education. Enid Lee
will discuss "Putting Race on the Table: Equity in Education"
from 6 to 8 p.m. at the University of Memphis Holiday Inn
at 3700 Central Avenue.
The
program is designed to help school teachers and administrators
develop skills to create and maintain equity-centered classrooms.
Lee facilitates an international network of schools, enabling
educators to share strategies for addressing questions of
language, race, culture, and class. Her goal is to develop
equitable school climates that promote achievement for all
students.
Lee
is the recipient of several awards for her work in anti-racist
education and community-building among black and immigrant
communities. She began her career 35 years ago as a classroom
teacher, and is a researcher, writer, facilitator and speaker.
She now consults internationally on anti-racist, inclusionary,
and equitable education.
Her
publications include Letters to Marcia: A Teacher's Guide
to Anti-racist Education and the docudramas "Quick
to Judge" and "Food for Thought."
