Egyptian
Institute to Host Talk on "Ways of Horus"
For
release: September 2, 2004
The
Institute of Egyptian Art and Archaeology will host Dr. James
K. Hoffmeier, director of the Tell Borg Project and professor
of Near Eastern History and Archaeology at Trinity International
University on September 17 at 7 p.m. Hoffmeier will deliver
an illustrated lecture on "The Ways of Horus Clarified:
Recent Excavations at Tell el-Borg (N. Sinai)."
Hoffmeier
will discuss recent archaeological discoveries made at the
strategic site of Tell el-Borg in North Sinai. One of the
objectives of the Tell el-Borg is to reconstruct Egypt's Frontier
defense system during the New Kingdom, including ongoing investigation
of the East Frontier Canal. Tell el-Borg's strategic location
on the military highway that connected Egypt to ancient Canaan,
known as the "Ways of Horus" makes this site of
particular interest not only to scholars, but
also to those members of the general public interested in
cultural interactions between Egypt and Israel in ancient
times.
The
lecture will be held in Mitchell Hall Auditorium and is free
and open to the public. A reception will be held at 6:30 p.m.
