Affirmative Action Will Be Subject of Mini-Symposium March 19 at the U of M

The University of Memphis' Black Law Students Association and the Memphis Law Review will host a mini-symposium on affirmative action Wednesday, March 19. “Affirmative Action at the Frontiers: Strategic Brainstorming for Remedying the Educational Gap" will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m. in Room 252 of the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, 3715 Central Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.

The keynote speaker will be Eboni Nelson, a Harvard Law graduate who teaches at the University of South Carolina School of Law. Shelby County Mayor A C Wharton is scheduled to make a brief appearance at the event.

A panel discussion will follow the keynote address. Panelists will include Steven Mulroy, Shelby County commissioner and associate professor of law at the U of M; Wendy J. Thompson, vice chancellor of access and diversity for the Tennessee Board of Regents; Cynthia Polk-Johnson, assistant dean of students for multicultural affairs at Rhodes College; and Tim Gibson, associate director of admissions and coordinator for multicultural recruitment at Rhodes College.
