In Her Own Words: Inspirational Speeches from the Women’s Rights Movement

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the University of Memphis will present “In Her Own Words: Inspirational Speeches from the Women’s Rights Movement.”

The program will be presented twice, back to back, on March 18 in the Rotunda of the Ned R. McWherter Library – from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

Students from the U of M’s Department of Theatre and Dance will perform excerpts from some of the most inspirational speeches made by women during their struggle for equal rights. They will read from talks by Shirley Chisholm, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Sojourner Truth, Bella Abzug, Eleanor Smeal, Mary Church Terrell. and Jarena Lee.

The event is sponsored by the U of M’s Center for Research on Women, the University Libraries, Friends of the University Libraries, the Department of Theatre and Dance, and the Department of Communication.

Convenient parking is available in the Zach Curlin garage or in the Central Avenue parking lot.
